5 years later: what a sheep that has strayed from the flock might look like

An Australian farmer near Canberra raises merino sheep.

These animals have very valuable wool – fine quality, thin, tough and grows back very quickly.

One of the sheep was lost while walking. The search was fruitless, and the farmer thought the animal was dead. After all, the merino is sheared every three months, otherwise its wool grows back very strongly.

A whole 5 years it lived in the wild and was found.

During that time, the permanently growing wool had turned into a real biosuit without any care: it was felted, clogged with dirt and parasites.

To save the sheep, the best professional shearer was called in. It took him six hours to “get” the sheep from its wooly cocoon.

During the shearing, 40 kilos of wool were gathered!

The slimmer Merino sheep seemed to feel lighter and livelier right away.
