Holly Young and her dog’s walk is about to have an unexpected event. Concerned about a cat trapped in a tree top, the Good Samaritan will do everything she can to put an end to her ordeal. But she was not at the end of her surprises…

In the state of Indiana, in the United States, the recent rescue of a hairball perched on top of a tree caused a lot of concern. 2 days were necessary to overcome this embarrassing situation, as reported by Love Meow.

An unexpected encounter

On November 6, Holly Young and her dog Nugget were out for a walk until they were called out by distressing meows. These were coming from Battell Elementary School, located 2 steps away.

Arriving at the scene, Holly caught a cat perched atop a tree. “She was 20 feet up, and had no branches to come down on. So I called her, but it didn’t work,” she recalls to Love Meow.

The Good Samaritan will try anything

The woman then contacted the school staff the next morning, as well as a nearby shelter and the fire department, but none of them were able to help her.

One of her friends also went to the scene with a ladder, but the cat became frightened and took refuge even higher than she already was. Holly finally tried to bait her with a can of tuna fish, to no avail.

2 days later, deliverance

The next day, the feline was still there. The owner of the building in front of the tree had been alerted to the situation, and went to the site with a ladder, accompanied by a tenant.

Tired of being in that tree for several days, the cat was ready to let her guard down. They all finally got her down, safely! “When I put her inside her crate, she was so sweet. She looked so relieved,” says Holly.

But the story doesn’t end there!

The cat was then turned over to The Meow Mission, where volunteer Sarah Hughes took her in. “She was very friendly. She was very friendly, she let herself be carried, and she started purring as soon as I fed her,” she recalls.

Noticing that she didn’t have the attitude of a wild animal, Sarah and Holly wondered if she belonged to someone. After a fruitless search of lost cat ads on the Internet, Holly decided to take the cat to the vet to check for a microchip.

Surprise!

As soon as the cat walked through the clinic’s door, one of the clinic’s assistants exclaimed, “I know who she belongs to!”

Indeed, a few days earlier, an ad had been posted on social networks to report the disappearance of the feline. This one had passed under Holly’s nose…

It told about the runaway of a cat with the sweet name of Winnifred, 2 weeks before. She had escaped from her home and left her owner, Madge, in deep sadness. Madge had also printed flyers, but she had resigned herself to never seeing her favorite fur ball again…

A happy ending

The veterinary assistants then rushed to contact Madge to tell her the wonderful news. “They even had to move the phone away from their ear, because she was screaming on the other end!” recalls Holly.

Madge rushed to the clinic for a moment of pure happiness. With tears in her eyes, she was reunited with her little charge. It had been an agonizing 2 weeks, and it was finally coming to an end thanks to Holly’s unwavering dedication.
