A five-year-old girl stumbled and fell into a terrarium with crocodiles. The story behind the famous frame

In 1956, an incredible incident occurred at the New York Zoo, which hit almost all the media of that time, and even now they remember it and do it quite often.

Dad, mom and daughter examined the animals and took pictures. They stood near the terrarium in which they kept crocodiles to take a photo for memory. While the adults were taking pictures, a five-year-old girl came too close to the terrarium and fell into the abyss. At that moment, there were almost no people around them, so the fall of the girl did not attract much attention. Even the girl’s parents did not notice that their baby was right in front of the crocodiles, as it turns out later, they were busy with their photographs.

Rescue hero

Little Nancy took a couple more steps to get a better look at the crocodiles. After all, she had only seen them in books before. The reptiles were full, and besides, it was a hot day, so they were not active. However, as the girl approached, the crocodiles still began to fuss.

Soon, the little girl, surrounded by crocodiles, was noticed. There was a fuss around and only then the girl’s parents saw that their daughter was in great danger. It’s hard to imagine how those same parents felt at that moment. No one knew what to do, everyone was confused. The situation was really terrible. And at this moment, a man in the form of the Air Force decided to jump over the fence. He quickly grabbed the girl and pulled her out. As it turned out later, this young man’s name was George Carlin, a future actor and comedian.

What happened to Nancy

The girl was also destined for an interesting fate. The rescued baby chose an acting career and became one of the most successful Hollywood actresses. We are talking about Nancy Allen! A strong friendship developed between Nancy and her rescuer. For almost her entire adult life, the actress supported her rescuer, who struggled with addictions. George died in 2008. The news of his death almost crippled Nancy. At his funeral, she left flowers and a note with just one line: “From a little girl too stupid to be afraid of crocodiles.”
