Most people have a hard time getting up early. And yet most people are full of strength and energy by the middle of the day.

But one man in India has not been able to live like a normal person for forty-two years. Purharama can spend up to twenty-three hours a day sleeping throughout the year.

This is due to a very rare condition called hypersomnia.

Hypersomnia is the term for having excessive daytime sleepiness or excessive sleep duration.

Although diagnosed at a young age, it only progressed over the years, increasing the amount of time spent sleeping. By age forty, the man could sleep twenty hours for twenty days at a time.

The man’s wife confessed that her husband once slept for twelve consecutive days, and when he woke up he decided to open a small store. Because of his pathology, Purharam can run the family business for no more than five days a month.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict when and to what extent Purharama will fall asleep. There is currently no cure for this disorder. Only medications are available that can affect the symptoms.

The man dreams that one day a vaccine will be invented for his disease and he will be able to live like a normal person.
