A story of a breastfeeding mom. “A stranger approached me and asked me to cover up”

Breastfeeding in public is one of the topics, that is constantly being discussed by people. Children should eat whenever they are hungry, but mothers want to be outside too. But mothers are always ready to do it for their child, but the people around them sometimes are not pleased with it.

One of the good facts is that it is becoming more and more accepted in the society over time. But it still attracts much more attention than bottle-feeding. But the attention it gets is not being expressed as a good reaction most of the time

We want to share with you a story from 2018 about a case with a breastfeeding mother Melanie Libson Dudle. She was breastfeeding her baby in public once, and very unexpectedly, a stranger approached and asked her to “cover up”.

For the main hero of our story, breastfeeding was something she tried to do discreetly. Even when she nursed her three-month-old son in a corner of the restaurant, she made sure she was turned back, she was wearing a bedspread too, but the scorching heat forced her to take it off.

After the incident she claimed: “I’m usually discreet, but we were sitting at the back of the restaurant. I had the blanket on, but it was about 35 degrees and my baby was sweating. So, I took it off.”

The mom of three was “stunned” after she received those words from the stranger. She then asked for the breastfeeding blanket from her husband, and covered her head with it. And she explained it like this:

“I put it over my head. I don’t know why I did it. It was just my reaction at that moment. I had nothing to say, and that is what I did to avoid talking. The funny moment has been captured by her husband, and the photo was soon shared on Facebook.

There were more details about the story, and turned out that Dudle was not in a Muslim country, disrespecting traditions, and that it was a man who asked her that. After the image was posted, it received over 100, 000 reactions and so many shares. A massive discussion started in the comment section.

Some of them were encouraging the lady, saying that she is allowed to breastfeed her baby wherever she wants, but there were some comments supporting the opinion of the stranger too.

But the most important thing here in this story, is that the mother, and the main hero of the story saw all those discussions under the post, that randomly went viral on Facebook. She understood one thing. People will always judge you, because whatever you do, there will be someone who won’t like it. There is no need to react to everything that seriously. Just enjoy your time, and the awesome feeling of being a mother every second!
