A unique find off the coast of Israel: a crusader’s sword more than 900 years old

The sword of the crusader was found in a bay created by nature itself. For more than four thousand years it was used for the temporary anchorage of ships.

The unique weapon is striking in its primeval beauty. The sharp part is 1 meter long and the hilt is 30 centimeters.

Shlomi Katzin lives in Atlit – the town is located near the coastal area. The man took a day off and planned to dive under the water.

In the process, he discovered unique artifacts that were resting on the dark bottom. The first things that caught his eye were anchors made of stone and metal, elements of pottery made of clay, as well as ancient weapons.

The swimmer couldn’t bring all the finds upstairs, but decided to take the sword with him. The guy showed the sword to one of the Antiquities Authority specialists.

The inspector said that the unique weapon under the sand was preserved in excellent condition. To date, this is one of the rarest and most valuable finds, which according to preliminary information, could belong to the Crusader knight.

“To find and touch an object that has 900 years of history and belonged to an era of knights is a unique experience,” said the inspector.
