Jamie Hilton, a former Miss Idaho in the United States, had to undergo an unusual procedure. In June of this year, the woman was the victim of an accident that forced her to urgently remove part of her skull.

The woman fell from a 3-meter high concrete embankment, hitting her head.

During surgery, doctors removed 25 percent of her skull because her brain had swollen badly and needed space to return to normal size. The piece of skull itself was placed inside her abdomen so that it would receive nourishment until it could be put back in place.

Within a few weeks, the girl was recovering quickly, going without a piece of her skull. She wore a special helmet to prevent further injury.

Once the brain swelling had sufficiently subsided, doctors were able to remove the skull fragment from her abdomen and place it back in place.

Hilton survived the surgery well, and the only consequences of these manipulations were changes in her sense of taste and loss of smell.

Otherwise, she feels perfectly normal. “I can read, write, walk, dance and take care of my children,” the 36-year-old American said.
