After a face transplant, he married a beauty. The face of a Polish tourist was transplanted to a Turk and he met the love of his life

It seems incredible that medicine has reached the level where people can change literally everything in their appearance. It gives you chances for people to make their lives better. This happened to Turkish citizen Recep Sert, who lost his appearance while cleaning a loaded gun.

Until 2013, Turkey had successfully transplanted a face to four patients, so the man just waited his turn and knew that this day would come someday. A year later, he was informed that they had found a donor with whom, by all indications, he was fully compatible.

Turkish citizen Recep Sert was 26 years old at the time of the operation. Pole Andrzej Kucza, came to Turkey on vacation to spend his holidays with his family. He suddenly became ill when he went to swim in the sea. His wife helped him get ashore and he was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. After a heart massage, Kucha was brought back to life and placed in intensive care without regaining consciousness.

After the research, it was found that the patient’s brain, unfortunately, does not function, but the body lives. Andrzej’s family voluntarily donated his organs to those in need. But since there was a case of suffocation, some organs, such as the liver and heart, were not suitable for transplantation, and it was decided to use the patient’s face exclusively.

The transplantation was performed at the Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in Muğla, where the donor from Poland was lying. A team of highly specialized specialists successfully transplanted the face of Polish tourist Andrzej Kuczy at Muğla Hospital to Recep Sert. The operation took more than 4 hours, during which the doctors replaced each other.

When he was in the hospital, waiting for the operation, he met the beautiful Esma Akyurt, who worked in this hospital. They often called each other after the man was discharged from the clinic, and met when Esma had days off. Soon the young people realized that there was something more between them than just sympathy and friendship, and decided to get married.

A few years later, they became the parents of a beautiful daughter, Hila Emine Sert, who was very similar to her father before the face transplant operation.
