An elephant kept in chains for 50 years cried after being released

Not knowing what freedom is, being in constant pain because of iron fetters, and knowing that you are only seen as a means of profit – can you call all this life? This is how an elephant named Raju existed for many years. And when he was finally taken from his torturer owners, he did something that astounded every member of the rescue team.

For a long 50 years, Raju the elephant was forced to walk the roads of India and entertain tourists. He was rescued after Wildlife Suit received a signal that the animal was in constant torment.

The initiative came from concerned individuals who felt sorry for Raju and decided to stand up for him. In cooperation with the local authorities, proceedings began in court, which helped take the suffering animal away from its owners.

The charity did everything possible to put an end to Rajah’s torment. The rescue team immediately noticed the signs of abuse and constant malnutrition. The elephant was emaciated and lethargic, with numerous wounds and swellings clearly visible on his legs.

Raju was so hungry that he did not even mind eating paper and plastic products. It was immediately clear to everyone that the elephant was in great emotional fear. The team stayed up all night long just to free Raju’s legs from the iron bracelets.

Wildlife Conservation Society representatives found out that the elephant had already had about 27 owners – not only was it constantly tortured, but it was also often resold, as if it were a thing with no emotions and feelings. With each owner, the animal inevitably suffered.

It’s hard to imagine what this elephant has been through since he was deprived of his natural habitat half a century ago. When Raju realized that people had come to help him and not to torture him, real tears flowed from his eyes. The elephant wept silently, thanking the people for his release with the look of sad and understanding eyes.

He probably no longer believed that he would ever be free of the iron chains that bound his legs 24 hours a day.

The rescue team knew that elephants are very intelligent animals, but they were still amazed by this display of affection. Everyone was insanely happy that the animal had been taken away from the bullied humans.

It’s scary to think what Raju could have become, had not concerned people stepped in to protect him. Most likely, he would not have lived long in such conditions.

After his release, Raju was transported to a special center and given all the necessary care. Then the elephant was taken to a sanctuary; there he was able to start a whole new life – without pain, starvation and exhaustion. It is to be hoped that the animal will soon forget its former owners forever and will cease to be afraid of humans.

Raju the elephant now looks happy. Today he knows what freedom is. He also knows that there is not only cruelty, constant torment and pain in the world. And those who abuse and exploit animals to suit their whims would do well to understand that animal life is not a means of satisfying human needs. It has a purpose of its own. And there should be no entertainment in the world that is built on the suffering of living beings.
