One cold afternoon, a pregnant dog appeared at my gate, clearly distressed and in need of help. She was 63 days into her pregnancy, close to labor, and this unexpected encounter became a life-changing experience for both of us.

Pregnant dogs typically carry for 58 to 68 days, so at 63 days, labor can start at any moment. Signs that birth is near include restlessness, nesting behavior, loss of appetite, and discharge. This dog, panting heavily and seeking comfort, was likely looking for a safe place to deliver her puppies.
