Interesting A drone flying over the mountain peaks captured something that no one was ever meant to see. by Impress story 01.12.2025 01.12.2025 1.1k views Share 1FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinTumblrRedditWhatsappTelegram There are places on our planet so remote and difficult to reach that only the most determined beings—humans—manage to get there. Among the steep mountains of Karachay-Cherkessia lies a breathtaking yet hard-to-reach lake, known as the Lake of Love. It earned its name because of its shape—a perfectly drawn heart nestled among the rocks, visible only from above. Like any truly “alive” mountain lake, it has its own legend. Long ago, in these lands, there lived a young woman of rare beauty, deeply in love with a powerful warrior, the protector of her village. But their love drew the wrath of a cruel prince, who demanded the girl’s hand in marriage. When she refused, he attacked the village with a full army. The warrior confronted the invaders with unwavering courage, but the fight was unequal: all the defenders fell. In desperation, to save her daughter from a forced marriage, the girl’s mother tore her own warm heart from her chest and threw it to the ground. From that place, what we now call the Lake of Love was born. Nestled between steep peaks at an altitude of 2,400 meters, the lake can be reached by anyone with enough perseverance and proper footwear. The trail begins in the village of Arkhiz, approximately eight kilometers round trip, but the constant climb and an elevation gain of nearly 900 meters challenge even the most experienced hikers.
