In fact, such a smile is inherent in many breeds, including the corgi. And dogs of other breeds can also demonstrate such a “face” expression. After all, they really are emotional animals, and can experience a huge range of feelings, which are expressed with facial expressions.

One of the most common smiles is the one that directly demonstrates the pleasure the dog gets from a tasty treat, communicating with the owner or riding in the car. By the way, many dogs quickly grasp that if the owner laughs, praises them, etc. for this expression of emotion, they are willing to show it over and over again.

It is true that smiling can also be “pseudo” – for example, in hot weather, a dog’s wide open mouth, plus his tongue sticking out, gives a certain resemblance to a smile, but it is not.

Especially since in such cases, as a rule, the animal breathes heavily. Actually, when the four-legged companion grins hostilely, this grimace also looks like a smile, but the dog may also show tension and even growl.

As for the relationship between the master and the dog, it seems most likely to me that they do indeed feel each other quite subtly. Therefore, when the owner is comfortable and in a good mood, this is transmitted to the dog, which may behave accordingly.
