Chopping onions can be the most obnoxious and difficult part of cooking and many don’t like this step in cooking. Isn’t it lovely to chop and slice fresh onions for your preferred dish without ruining your makeup, causing your contacts to fog up, or sprinkling the cutting surface with an excess of tear salt?

This expert chef thinks you can, and he provides five simple, step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish it.

Give Jack Scalfani a call. He is the host of the YouTube series “Cooking with Jack” and a food fanatic. He’s well-known for his “lazy-man recipes” but these days he’s going viral on the internet for telling you that you’ve been chopping onions incorrectly. Here is what he suggests!

Step 1

First, make sure your knives are sharp enough. It’s important to properly sharpen knives. It may surprise you to learn that dull knives really cut more deeply than sharp ones since you have to use much more force to get the knife through the object.

Step 2

Find the onion’s root end. Pick up your onion and locate the cut end where the root was removed. It is best to point the root end upward toward the ceiling.

Step 3

Cut the onion at an angle close to the root using your dominant hand. Proceed around the root in the same manner as you would while chopping out an apple’s core.

Step 4

Take out the lightbulb.. It should be simple to remove the bulb once you have completely encircled the root. The onion’s flavorful bulb is its component.
