Phoebe Cates, a famous Hollywood actress, has been starred in hit films like “Gremlins” and “Drop dead Fred” You will probably remember her best for her famous pool scene in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” from back 1982.

Despite her successful career path, Cates stepped away from Hollywood 20 years ago. She did that to pursue a quieter life, working a job she enjoys.

Phoebe grew up in a very creative family. Her father, Joe Cates, was a producer-director, and her uncle led the Director’s Guild. Phoebe was initially trained as a dancer at Juilliard. She was enjoying it so much, but her knee injury didn’t let her enjoy dancing for so long.

This is when her focus was turned to modeling at just 14. She appeared on “Seventeen” magazine’s cover 4 times. But she always has mentioned that she didn’t enjoy modeling much.

Her path changed to acting after meeting a film agent at a party in New York. She has trained with acting coach Robert Ravan and debuted in “Paradise” back in 1982.

Her breakthrough role came in “Fast times at Ridgemont high”, from which comes the iconic pool scene. Of course, It has been discussed for so long. Cates once said, “Why not show off your great body if you have it?”.

In 1983, Cates met actor Kevin Kline while auditioning for “The big chill”. Though she didn’t get the part, she found the biggest love of her life.

Despite a 16-year age gap between them, they felt the strong connection between each other and didn’t let it fade. It was a new chapter in her life.

They got married in 1989 and had their first child, Owen, in 1991. When they celebrated their 27th anniversary in 2017, many admired their lasting bond, which Kline attributed to “taking care of the marriage.”

Cates gradually left acting in the ’90s, choosing to prioritize family. She opened a boutique called “Blue Tree” on Madison Avenue in 2005, where she still works today.

Living nearby, Phoebe continues to greet customers and pick new items for her store—and, by all accounts, she’s as radiant as ever.
