Fisherman kept at home a pearl worth 100 million dollars, not knowing its real value

Some people are unaware of their wealth. Some people inherit a painting worth a fortune. Others have a book in their library that was published about 50 years ago in a limited edition and is very valuable to collectors. It’s easy to imagine a story like these, but we are going to tell you a really unique story of how a simple fisherman, possessing the biggest pearl, never made it big.

In 2006, a Filipino fisherman was caught in bad weather and took shelter in a cliff crevice near the island of Palawan. When the wind died down, the man decided to sail on, but could not unhook the anchor of his boat. When the man dove in, he found a huge mollusk with a huge pearl inside.

The pearl he found was named Puerto Princess.

The fisherman took the find home and put it under his bed. In 2016, the shack burned down, and the man had to look for a new roof over his head. To avoid lugging the pearl around, he took it to the nearest tourist office. The staff was beyond amazed. After weighing it, they found out the pearl with a length of 66 cm and a width of 30 cm weighed 34 kg!

Experts believe this giant would fetch at least $100 million, a sum unattainable for most people on Earth, and for a Filipino fisherman, it would be absolutely fantastic. However, the fisherman never got rich. His find was recognized as the property of the nation and placed in a museum for public viewing. The “lucky fisherman” was given thanks without paying a penny.

The pearl was named after the city of “Puerto Princesa,” and was the largest specimen found to date. It can be admired by anyone visiting the island of Palawan. Although no reward was given to the fisherman who caught such a precious “catch,” his name will go into the Guinness Book of World Records!
