His father gave his son whiskey for every birthday, but forbade him to drink it, and it wasn’t until 28 years later, when he bought a house, that the boy realized why

Matthew Robson, a 28-year-old resident of the English town of Taunton, received a bottle of Macallan 18-year-old single malt from his father named Pete for his first birthday in 1992.

Dad continued to give his son a bottle of whiskey for every birthday, but forbade him to open them.

“I used to get it as a gift for every birthday. I thought it was a little weird, but I followed the instructions not to open them under any circumstances. That’s what I did,” Matthew says.

His father turned it into an annual tradition and over the years he has accumulated 28 such bottles and spent about five thousand pounds (500,000 rubles).

Now this collection is estimated at 40 thousand pounds (almost four million rubles)

A broker who specializes in rare whisky says that here we are talking about the perfect collection.

“The price of Macallan whisky has gone up dramatically in the last 10 years and no one has seen a collection like this in a long time,” he says.

Matthew decided to part with this collection without even tasting the whiskey so he could buy his first home.
