How a cat got its master to quit drinking

In my student days, one man, let’s call him Sergei, ended up at the medical school. No, he did not go there to study-just a friend of his worked in the department and invited him to celebrate the birth of his daughter. And at the institute, of course, they used various experimental animals to try out drug inventions. And so, when our hero together with a friend had already had a good time, Sergei happened to be in the laboratory next door. He was horrified by the animals he saw there – mice, dogs, cats. Of course, they didn’t look their best.

A friend explained to him that various scientific experiments were being conducted on the animals, so that he could then give the invented drugs to people. But Sergei was so impressed by the sad appearance of these animals that he decided to cheat – he left the window slightly open before they were about to leave. At night, the man cautiously climbed in through the window and let the animals out of their cages. As Sergei was about to leave the same way, a tiny gray kitten clung to his pant leg. He looked at Sergei with those huge eyes and meow pitifully. The man decided to take it home.

The kitten quickly grew up, but tried to keep up with his owner everywhere – accompanied him home all the time. Sergei was very fond of his cat, but that did not prevent him from leading a not entirely sober lifestyle and often leaving to meet friends. At one of these moments, the cat disappeared. But Sergei had not even discovered the disappearance yet, as it was found. The neighbors wanted to take the handsome cat for themselves, so he would not be “tormented” by his alcoholic owner, but the cat scratched everybody and ran away. Next came the neighbors, who complained that the cat scratched them and in general, “he is rabid.

Then Sergei came up with a “creative” idea – he began to sell his cat at the market almost every day. Since the cat was beautiful, they gave good money for it, but as soon as the new owners took the cat away around the corner, it tore out and ran home as fast as it could. And the owner used the money to buy him a drink and sausage for the cat.

But one of these “numbers” did not work – the cat did not come back. No matter how many times Sergei waited for him, searched the market, called and shouted – all to no avail. The owner became sad, realized that he had sold his friend, and began to blame himself. But what of it – the cat will not come back! The master stopped sleeping at night and could not drink, moreover he could not get hold of alcohol in his throat. He was about to jump the rope with grief. But then he heard some strange noises at the front door, opened it and saw his cat, stripped and bitten, evidently, taken by dogs.

When Sergei sold it, the new owners got in the car and drove to another city, taking the cat with them, of course. So he could escape only when they let him out of the car – for a week he walked home, barely escaped the dogs, and several times almost got run over by a car. The emaciated and exhausted cat had a very distressed look. But Sergei was so amazed by the return of the cat that he gave his word not to sell it again and to give up drinking. And he did everything he could; he even went to work and got a cat, so the cat wouldn’t be bored waiting for him at home from work.
