How does the dog know that the master is coming soon

For decades, scientists around the world have been trying to figure out how pets know in advance that their owners are coming. Usually their behavior at such moments changes dramatically, the animals are anxious, may wander back and forth in the corridor or lie by the front door, whine or try to look out the window. Statistics tell us that about half of all pets have this instinct. They have no way of knowing when their owner will be home!

The same daily routine and cues from the family

It’s easy to see the same daily routine before the owner arrives

A dog is an animal with a lot of intelligence, so it is easy for a dog to remember its owner’s daily routine and know when to expect him back. But, of course, this option “works” if the daily routine of the dog owner is constant.

In addition, the animal can easily recognize the owner’s imminent return by certain cues from the housemates. Many families have certain daily rituals. For example, when waiting for the head of the family to come home, the spouse cooks or heats up food, the children turn off or put aside the gadgets they were busy with instead of lessons, and so on. The owner can alert him or her with a phone call. And the dog will quickly determine that there is a direct correlation between all of these activities and the appearance of a beloved owner.

How do they do that?!

But try to guess when nothing heralds the arrival of an owner!

And if with the above cases everything is clear and fits into the logical reasoning, much more interesting are the cases when the owner comes back at different times, and there are no “hints” that he is coming soon. Nevertheless, many animals know that the owner is about to appear even if he returns at an unusual hour or, in general, always comes at different times.

The rest of the family may not even know that the one whom the dog thinks is the master is coming home right now. Therefore, the animal will not be able to count external signals from them. By the way, the dog can “predict” the arrival of either only one favorite master, or other family members too. By singling out one of them as the owner, the pet considers the rest to be members of the pack.

“Telepathy or Antenna?”

Scientists have not yet been able to explain this ability and have classified it as telepathic

But scientists are quite picky about the study of this question, so they tried to investigate in detail what avid dog owners call the “sixth sense” of their pets. And the most interesting thing is that this time the scientists had to agree that we are really talking about some kind of feeling, akin to telepathy, experienced by dogs.

True, to predict the unexpected arrival of the owner can not only dogs, such an ability have and cats, and parrots, and even horses! Of course, this does not mean that 100% of these animals can do such a “trick”, but, as it turned out, this ability is inherent in many of them.
