Helen and Joe Auer are a couple in love who have lived a long and happy married life together. Their union lasted 73 years. After his wife passed away when she was 94 years old, 100-year-old Joe kissed his beloved wife with the words, “Helen, call me home.” Twenty-eight hours later he was gone. The couple lived in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A story of sorrows and joys

They managed to survive difficult times during the Great Depression and World War II. Going to the front, Joe put a family picture of his sweetheart and children in his wallet. He kept it in his pocket for years. That’s where it was found after his death, deciding to bury it with Joe.

During their lives, the Auers raised and raised 10 children who always saw the strong and open love of their parents, understanding that they could not live without each other. The couple enjoyed the birth of 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Love and mutual understanding reigned.

There was always a pleasant atmosphere in the Auer family and the family members were in a good mood. And that’s what helped to create a strong and friendly family. And looking at their photographs together you immediately notice that they are smiling. According to the children, their mother always tried to keep the home loving, warm and caring. She smiled a lot and was rarely in a bad mood. Whereas their father was reserved and believed in God, believing that he and his wife had been sent children by the Almighty.

Their youngest son Jerry, talking about his parents, says that they managed to build marital happiness through constant work on relationships. It was this that helped them to cope with financial difficulties and survive the distance.

According to his son, Joe and Helen had quiet temperaments and humble characters: “My parents are role models. Their relationship deserved respect.” They demanded nothing of others and were simple people, and fate gave them a long, happy family life with beloved children and grandchildren.

Their farewells were held in the church where they joined their hearts many years ago.
