Old pelican couple waited 6 years to have a chick and feel what it is like to be a parent

Having a baby is one of the most emotional thing that can happen in life. It gives you energy and new motivation for life and you just feel the happiest in the world. And this is not only about people but also animals.

This story that we want to tell you is about animals and specially about pelican couple. They waited 6 years to have a little baby and they couldn’t be happier to see their egg hatch after 6 years of waiting. They finally met their chick after such long time and people who took care of them told that they have never seen them happier before! They were already old but they lived enough to see that day.

Mr. Percival was rescued by the Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue in Australia. They spotted him on Chambers Island in Maroochydore 18 years ago.

The poor little pelican got trapped in fishing lines and hook. Because of that there was a bad and serious injury caused on his wings. Sadly he lost his wing, but he was surrounded with love and attention of the stuff and volunteers. He felt happy there and lived at the sanctuary since then.

Here is where he met his love and soon they have desired to have a baby. For six years they gently spent most of their time nesting and caring for eggs. But they were unhappy because none of the eggs hatched and they just kept waiting. People could see how upset they were and it was crazy that they could show so much emotions and feelings about that.

But the staff finally decided to do an amazing thing for the already old pelicans. Volunteer placed a fellow pelican’s egg in the couple’s nest. After that long years of waiting the couple was finally gifted a perfect little baby chick.

That moment was extremely special and magical not only for them but also all the people that surrounded them all that time. The new dad and mom couldn’t hide their excitement and as they expressed their sadness they expressed their joy and happiness very well too. It is always lovely to see animals love each other and take care. We are happy that they felt how it is like to be a parent.
