She fell asleep for 20 years after a quarrel with her husband. A unique case in history

For a long time, scientists and researchers have been trying to understand the nature of the origin of lethargic sleep. But scientists have never been able to come to a single conclusion.
There are many cases in history when people fell asleep for many years and then suddenly awoke. At the same time, some of them reported that they did not remember anything. Others, on the contrary, were aware of everything going on around them, but could not react to it in any way.

The case of a Soviet woman named Nadezhda is not unique.

She fell asleep at age 34 after a serious quarrel with her husband, and only woke up 20 years later. At the same time she looked her age at which she went into a lethargic sleep. It was only some time later that Nadezhda finally grew old.

Nadezhda’s husband passed away. He could never wait to see his wife awake again. And after a while, the woman’s mother also passed away. And that was the sending point after which Nadezhda awoke.

Immediately upon awakening, the woman was taken to the hospital, where the doctors asked her questions. They asked Nadezhda to tell them what had happened to her and how she had felt during the long sleep.

Nadezhda told the doctors that she was aware of what was happening to her the whole time, but she couldn’t say anything or move. She could hear all the conversations that were taking place near her bed. All the time she spent in lethargic sleep was for her the real reality, but she could not give a feedback to this world for reasons she did not understand.

Nadezhda passed away in 1994. Her case was not unique in the research community, but scientists failed to answer a number of questions. Among other things, they could not find out what caused the woman’s lethargic sleep.
