The start of the story

Sonia Salinas Fierros, the mother of the girls, did not even suspect for a long time what was waiting for her Siamese twins. Her pregnancy was stable, so she visited the clinic infrequently.

In the spring of 2005, Sonya felt a slight malaise and went to the doctor. Only then did they tell her the news that her future girls will be born together.

Sonia and her husband Federico moved from Mexico to the United States for a while to get a consultation at the Los Angeles clinic about the possibility of separating the girls. However, they did not have time to return to their homeland before giving birth. On August 2, 2005, twin girls Renata and Regina were born.

After the birth of Siamese twins, they were examined for a long time. As it turned out, the girls had many organs in common, which made the separation procedure practically impossible.

But the specialists of the children’s hospital of Los Angeles still started preparing for the separation, which lasted almost 10 months.

On June 14, 2006, a team of 80 specialists spent 22 hours separating Renata and Regina. Sonia and Federico were nearby all this time and were very worried. But everything ended successfully. The next night, each girl slept in her own bed, and not in one common bed, as it was before.

For a few days, the news about Siamese twins from Mexico, who were successfully separated, spread across the front pages of most major media outlets. That’s how Regina and Renata became famous all over the world. However, the parents of the babies decided to lead a modest and quiet life, trying to refuse almost all invitations to the TV show.

This summer, the twins are celebrating their 18th birthday. Almost 17 years have passed since their separation. Now the sisters live in Mexico with their parents and receive higher education. Renata (in the photo in a red dress) has minor back problems, which makes it difficult for the girl to walk. She is undergoing a course of medical procedures, after which she should become completely healthy.
