The amazing restoration of a Colt Python .357 Magnum Lighter leaves the viewers in awe

In this video, you’ll see the fascinating restoration of a unique cigarette lighter modeled after the iconic Colt Python .357 Magnum. This detailed and realistic-looking lighter was in terrible condition when it was sent in for repair, but through a careful and meticulous process, it was brought back to life.

To clarify, this is not a real firearm—it’s a Chinese-made butane lighter designed to resemble the legendary revolver. The lighter was provided by a loyal subscriber who frequently goes magnet fishing. From time to time, he recovers rusted and discarded objects from lake bottoms and sends the most interesting ones for restoration.

This particular find was in extremely poor condition, covered in dirt, rust, and corrosion

The restoration began by removing layers of mud, dirt, rust, and mold from the lighter’s surface. Every screw received a drop of oil before carefully disassembling the entire piece into multiple parts. However, due to severe corrosion, four screws had to be drilled out completely.

The gun frame underwent sandblasting to strip away corrosion, followed by meticulous grinding to restore the metal to its original form. Deep pitting was a challenge, but most of it was successfully removed. The metal components were then polished, resulting in a smooth and refined finish.

To clean the smaller parts, a mini tumbler was used, while the plastic components were treated with muriatic acid to remove grime and stains.

A final polishing step with car wax restored the plastic’s glossy finish, making it look as good as new.

For those with a sharp eye, this restoration may look familiar—one of these gun lighters was restored 2½ years ago. Having already worked on this model, the process was much more efficient, as every tiny component and its function was already well understood.
