While working on an Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to San Francisco, flight attendant Shelia Frederick noticed something that didn’t sit right with her. A well-dressed man was traveling with a young woman who appeared quiet and withdrawn, avoiding eye contact with others. Something about the situation felt off, and Shelia decided to pay closer attention.

As she moved through the cabin serving snacks, Shelia subtly tried to engage with the young woman. Sensing that something was wrong, she shared her concerns with a fellow crew member.

Together, they devised a plan: while her colleague distracted the man, Shelia would attempt to discreetly communicate with the girl.

“I looked into her eyes, and I could see she was in distress. That’s when I knew I had to do something,” Shelia later shared in an interview with Good Morning Britain.

Thinking quickly, she left a note and a pen inside one of the airplane’s restrooms and subtly signaled the girl to go inside. When the young woman found the note and wrote back asking for help, Shelia immediately notified the pilot, who contacted authorities at the destination airport.

Upon landing, law enforcement was waiting. The man was taken into custody, and the young woman was rescued. Shelia stayed in touch with her over the years, and today, the girl is in college, rebuilding her life and looking toward the future.

“If something doesn’t seem right, speak up,” Shelia urges, emphasizing the importance of trusting your instincts.

Her quick thinking and bravery serve as a powerful reminder that one person’s actions can make all the difference. Share this story to recognize Shelia’s courage and inspire others to step up when they see something suspicious.
