Animals have their own habits and peculiarities that their owners have to reckon with. For example, Jamie, an elderly Burmese cat that was recently adopted from a shelter in Australia, has a peculiarity of his own: he needs constant contact with his mistress.

Jamie ended up at the shelter at the age of 13, brought in by relatives of a senior citizen who had been placed in an assisted living residence. As often happens, no one wanted her pet, and Jamie lost not only his mistress at an old age, but also his home, which was replaced by a shelter cage.

The shelter workers treated the aging cat well, even though they thought he was hopeless for adoption – especially since the vet found a number of problems with Jamie. An older animal requires more attention and health care, so the chances of the cat finding a new owner were minimal.

However, sometimes miracles happen, and Jamie was lucky: one of the visitors to the shelter chose him – it was a young woman Sarah Dempsey. Sarah came to the shelter looking for a pet to brighten up her loneliness. When she first saw Jamie, he was asleep, but as soon as she approached his cage, the cat lifted its head and looked at her.

It was the gaze of a deeply suffering creature, and Sarah did not hesitate to take Jamie to her.

The woman was not mistaken: the cat has become the perfect companion for her. The cat follows Sara around on her tail throughout the day, and then climbs onto her lap whenever she can and purrs softly. At night, the cat also sleeps next to Sara, but here’s the tricky part: he can’t fall asleep until Sara takes hold of his leg.

Jamie is apparently very afraid of losing his new mistress, so he wakes up whenever she lets go of his paw.

“If I let go of him, he’ll wake up and start meowing and nibbling lightly on my hand. I guess we’ve already made friends,” is how Sarah commented on her relationship with her new friend. She loves that the cat became attached to her so quickly – it was exactly what she wanted when she got a pet.
