The girl with severe 90-degree neck deformity gets new chance for life. This is how the doctor saved her

The doctor operated free of charge on a 12-year-old girl who lived with severe pain caused by a 90-degree neck curvature.

Afshin Gul from Pakistan was born healthy, but when she was ten months old she had an accident: she fell out of her sister’s arms. From that moment on, her neck began to twist, the curvature reached 90 degrees. The girl’s parents took her to the doctor, he treated her, put an orthopedic apparatus. Despite this, her condition only worsened. The girl could not walk, could not speak, eat on her own.

“She could not walk, eat or speak. She was just lying on the ground and we had to help her in everything.” the girl’s mother said and added that they could not afford further treatment.

In addition, Afshin was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Due to health problems, she never went to school, could not play with friends like a simple child.

In this condition and with constant pain, the girl lived until the age of 12, when a doctor in India became interested in her case after an article was published about her in the newspaper.

“This is probably the first case of its kind in the world.” he said.

In March 2022, Dr. Rajgopalan Krishnan, a specialist in complex spinal surgeries, performed a unique 6-hour operation on her. After the operation, Dr. Krishnan said that without treatment, the girl would not have lived long.

The operation went well. At the moment, the teenager feels well and is recovering. Now she can walk, talk, eat on her own and doesn’t need anybody to help her in doing simple daily tasks. This is how her life changed to the better.
