It is a well-known fact that dogs are human’s best friend. They are always there to help you whenever and wherever you need them. They give unconditional love without any words. They just show that they are with us and that is what makes people adore them.

In return owners should do everything so they feel loved and of course give them the attention they really deserve. It can be so simple and not require so much time or energy. Just as offering them healthy meals or making sure to give them time to stroll around the park, these are things we all know they love. And this small things are what make them happy.

John Unger is from Bayfield, Wisconsin and he knows what a real dog love is. We want to tell you the story of him and his dog. For nearly two decades, he and his shepherd mix rescue dog whose name is Schoep were inseparable everywhere.

In 2012, he found out that his dog had severe arthritis the struggle of which is well-know by dog lovers. It is a very hard disease for dogs. Unger knew he also had to make a painful decision one way or another, and it was the hardest for him.

The poor dog had to be put down soon but Unger knew that he could still help Schoep to at least get rid of his pain. Unger knew water therapy could bring relief to people with arthritis. He brought Schoep and together they went to Lake Superior, which was one of their favorite places. He also decided to bring a photographer to capture that moment and it was worth it.

He couldn’t even imagine that the photo of him making the dog fall asleep in the water would go viral and so many people around the world would know about their story. Many people were inspired by this and adored them.

In 2013, Unger announced on his and Schoep’s Facebook page the passing of his companion for the past 20 years… He shared a photo of Schoep’s paw-print in the sand and wrote: “I breathe but I can’t catch my breath.” It definitely was a very hard emotional period of time for him, but that is how the rules of life are built…
