Wildlife photographers are ready to do everything to have a rare shot. But the Pole Krzysztof Khomich is a true lover of local flora and fauna, so he did a brave deed without hesitation, without being afraid to plunge into the mud up to his neck. He did this in order to help a living creature that he noticed far away in the swamp.

For unique pictures, Homich often goes to the swamps, because many beautiful birds live there. That day, he and a colleague went to nature in the area of the city of Swinoujscie, and during the filming, the photographer saw a large bird that was drowning in the swamp, getting lost in the oily mud. The filming was also done with the help of a drone, and it was the technique that helped the man see that the bird needed help.

The drowning bird clearly could not get out on its own and needed someone’s help, and the man decided on a desperate step – he went to the swamp to help the bird.

Homich’s friend tied him with a rope, but it was not a fact that he would have been able to pull the photographer out if he had started to sink far from the shore, so the act was really heroic and brave.

The rescuer managed to safely reach the bird, free it and drag it to the shore. By that moment, the bird was so weakened that it no longer resisted, which, finally, made the task easier. Friends put the her in a bag and took it to the zoo protection center.

There, they washed her with water from a hose, and Khomich finally understood who he saved – it was a white-tailed eagle. According to experts, the eagle was very young, not more than half a year old.

This bird is listed in the Red Book as a “vulnerable species”, so the photographer’s act is doubly appreciated and worth everyone’s respect.

The zookeepers named the eagle Icarus, now he is being restored in the reserve, and then he will be released into the wild to continue her free life.
