In February 2002, Jake and Erin Herrin had two girls, Kendra and Malia. Their birth caused mixed feelings: the babies were Siamese twins. Young parents were very happy to add to the family, but immediately worried about their fate.

Until the age of 4, Kendra and Malia lived their lives together. But soon their parents firmly decided to separate the twins, giving each of them the opportunity to be on their own.

Kendra and Malia had only two legs, and each could control only one of them. But the girls quickly learned to work together and were able to move and play.

In 2006, a team of 31 specialists conducted a procedure to separate the Siamese twins. It took them more than a day, and the event itself was heavily covered in the media and on television, making Kendra and Malia little celebrities.

The girls were separated when they were four years old. From that point on, they each became independent.

Although they had to adjust to a new life, they adapted quickly. After just three years, the sisters began to attend school, sometimes alternating with home schooling. The sisters developed a talent for creativity. They could draw for hours in their room while singing their favorite song.

Kendra and Malia are now living full lives. Being able to be away from each other for any distance, they still prefer to be around each other everywhere. The girls have gotten their driver’s licenses and are excellent drivers.
