The birth of a child is an exciting, special and magnificent event. But when you have the happy news that you are pregnant with twins, the joy is understandably even greater! In fact, we are talking about children who, in some way, will have an indissoluble and unique bond between them.

The mother of this story was the happiest to hear of her pregnancy. However another piece of news, not at all pleasant, was about to fall upon her and her companion. But let’s go in order and let’s see the incredible story of their twins together.

In fact, it is precisely little Poppy and Winnie who are at the center of this sensational episode. A birth so particular that it was even defined by doctors as “a miracle”. But let’s find out what happened.

Leah McBride and her husband Austin, were counting down the wait to finally be able to hold their unborn children in their arms, but when they reached 21 weeks of gestation, heartbreaking news appeared.

According to the doctors, one of the twins was destined never to see the light… the specialists therefore advised them to carry on the pregnancy of only one of the two little ones to give the other one more chances to stay alive. But the woman could not accept such decision and she had therefore turned to other doctors in a last desperate attempt.

Also according to the other doctors the situation was rather critical: it seems that one of the two little ones was receiving all the nutrients to the detriment of the other. The latter had come to be less than half of her sister … but something could still be groped.

The surgeons decided to operate on Leah trying to restore “the imbalance” between the two. And they succeeded. Unfortunately, the couple’s ordeal was not yet destined to end: at just 27 weeks of pregnancy, the woman’s waters had broken, thus decreeing the imminent arrival of the twins.

Once again the doctors had intervened and managed, through steroids, to delay that delicate birth. At 31 weeks, Poppy’s heart rate had begun to drop causing everyone to become alarmed and the doctors had to deliver both babies. Poppy, the underweight baby who was passing all the nutrients to her sister, was unexpectedly in perfect health. But not Winnie.

That twin’s lungs hadn’t fully formed: Poppy, by slowing down her heart, had forced both her and her Winnie to be born, effectively saving her life! If they hadn’t been born prematurely Winnie wouldn’t have survived.

“It’s as if she’s sent a signal: her heartbeat has attracted the attention of all of us, yet in the end she wasn’t as sick as we feared. Poppy tried to save Winnie’s life: it’s a miracle.” the doctors had told Leah. Both girls are now very well and are in excellent health; needless to say they are more united than ever and take care of each other respectively!
