Pigs do not usually live in small spaces, especially apartments, or being pets like many other animals. Many people found out the hard way, when they were promised that the adorable piglet they had seen would never grow up. Except that the mini-pigs grow up, like Esther who was very small before becoming a magnificent sow.

Esther the pig weighed a little over a kilo when Steve agreed to adopt her. He was assured that the animal would not weigh more than 30 kilos. Derek, her spouse, was less enthusiastic, but after a while he also melted for the pig. “Anyone with good heart will always love baby animals. it’s impossible not to fall in love with them.” he told.

A visit to the vet clearly showed that it was not a minipig. The couple then decided to make more room at home so that everything goes for the best. A pig can normally live for 15 years, although in the food industry they are slaughtered before they even celebrate their first year.

The pig grew and grew. Today, Esther weighs no less than 300 kilos. She is a pampered and very kind princess. Plus, she’s incredibly smart, even more so than their dogs, the owners say. The couple bought a farm with the help of a donation. In this way, Esther could have much more room to move than in their smaller apartment. Soon, other farm animals followed to keep him company.

A few years ago they had a big shock. Esther was sick. Its massive size was a problem. She wouldn’t fit on a normal CT scan. With a new donation campaign, enough money has been raised for the appropriate equipment. It turned out that Esther had breast cancer. Fortunately, this was noticed in time and she was able to be operated on. The adorable sow is cancer free!

Steven and Derek wrote a bestseller about his adventures: Esther the Wonder Pig. There are even plans for the book to be made into a movie! It was a great trip! Esther turned out not to be a mini pig, but a very big inspiration and a source of love and tenderness! Don’t forget to share his story if you like it too!
