Veterinarian succeeds in giving disabled bird functional new wing

For bird’s free flight they of course need their wings, which is a pretty gift for them from the mother nature. Unfortunately, between birth defects on the increase due to contamination or accidents, many birds suffer. In this kind of cases some vets are able to change everything like this one who created prosthetic wings for a bird who lost her wings.

Wei Wei is a 12 week old Molina Conure and was brought to the vet in one of Australian cities. Its wings were too short and did not allow her to fly well, and Wei fell to the ground every time she tried to fly Catherine Apuli decided to give the little bird wings made from prosthetic feathers that had been donated to the clinic.

Only a few hours after the operation, Wei was back in the air! Catherine, the veterinarian, explained that the little Molina’s Parakeet had been lightly anesthetized before the feathers were placed and glued. The procedure does not hurt at all.

“Wei then stayed in our clinic, warm and cozy, for a few hours before we encouraged her to fly again. She flew very well after a few attempts and seemed very happy to be able to fly freely and without any difficulties” said Catherine.

Now that Weihas learned to fly, she can land safely and move through the air. She no longer falls to the ground and therefore cannot be injured. What a fantastic operation! We are very happy for Wei and that now she can enjoy her life she really deserves to have in nature!
